Drug Testing and Drug screening

Toxicology Unit is Australia's foremost drug testing laboratory, specialising in clinical, medico-legal and workplace testing.The laboratory runs Australia's principal drugs of abuse proficiency program, Austox. The Unit is a part of Pacific Laboratory Medicine Services, a business unit of Northern Sydney Health specialising in drug screening.

Originally named the Oliver Latham Laboratory, the Toxicology Unit is the New South Wales reference laboratory for drugs of abuse testing. The laboratory provides a clinical service to the NSW Methadone program, residential drug treatment centres and hospitals. In addition, the laboratory provides a medico-legal drug testing service to a number of institutions including correctional centres, NSW Probation and Parole Service and a number of industries utilising workplace drug testing programs.

The laboratory conducts routine qualitative analysis on urine specimens, powders, tablets and other material suspected of containing drugs. Quantitative analysis is carried out on specimens taken for medico-legal purposes. For more information, refer to the section on "Working to Australian Standard AS/NZS 4308".
